You do spend most of your time doing other things than your actual work. Reaching out to new clients is important to grow and keep your business going. Self education in any technical field is really important. If you don’t constantly self educate you will fall behind your competition. I have to spend a lot of time on accounting and bookkeeping, filing sales and unemployment taxes, etc. I would say a good 75% of people have no idea what it actually means to freelance or to own a business. The extra work and duties that need to be done just to stay afloat does take up more of your time than actual work. If you want to be successful that is what has to be done though. Ignorance is bliss and for the people who don’t know and haven’t experienced it, they are ignorant to these facts and will criticize, complain, and probably will never understand, nor support your cause.
